STRANGE CREATURES

Assemblages, combining remnants of the organic and the fabricated, populate the cabinet. Intended as hybrids of the familiar and the unsettling, these creatures reference the Wunderkammer's tradition of mixing fact and fiction as a means of evoking the mythical.

'Characteristically, the Munich collection also contained a large number of objects that played on the boundary between art and nature by altering various and often precious or exotic naturalia in a way that emulated their natural forms and blurred the distinction between the natural object and its artificial alteration.'
